How to reunion from a distance
I know this is an extraordinary time for all of us who get such joy from bringing alumni together and strengthening their bonds to their alma maters. The pandemic has caused the cancellation of reunions and other alumni events, leaving alumni disappointed and schools scurrying to come up with virtual events that recreate the feeling of meaningful connection.
At this time of uncertainty, I’d like to give you some suggestions to help schools continue to accomplish their alumni community building goals in a virtual reunion setting, starting with a key component: a reunion class book. Reunion class books achieve the goal of creating personal connection between alumni and, if done well, between alumni and the school. After all, personal connection is what a reunion is all about for alumni and the school.
How do I know? I’ve been creating turnkey reunion class books for law school reunions for the past ten years as a way to increase alumni engagement. Alumni tell us time and time again how the book is a wonderful connector and made their reunion experience much more meaningful. We hear this even from alumni who were unable to attend but received an e-copy or printed version of our book. Giving your disappointed alumni the ability to socially connect from a distance, while accomplishing your school’s goals of hosting a reunion, will earn your virtual reunion high marks by all!
