Imperfect Attendance: Is it essential that a committee member attend the reunion? The answer may surprise you.
When building your reunion committee, your goal is to build as big a committee as possible. One reason for a large committee is that you can count on most of your committee members to attend the reunion. But what if they can’t attend because of an important conflict? No worries because they will encourage their friends to attend. Think of your committee as tentacles reaching out to the class–the more tentacles, the more likely that a class member will receive a personal ask to come to the reunion (and make a reunion gift if that is a goal of your reunion).
How I Know It Works: Reunions Reinvented increased attendance at a 25th law school reunion sixteen-fold (that is not a typo!) with a committee of 12 class members, yet only six committee members were able to attend. A committee member’s attendance at the reunion is not a prerequisite for a successful reunion.
